The most important decade for Africa is next….

Summation
of a decade

In the beginning of this decade, I needed stamps to send letters to Kenya. It’s not that there wasn’t internet; it’s just that it wasn’t that easily accessible. Now America and host of other countries are playing catch-up with a number of African countries where African’s not only send/receive e-mail but also use their phones to send/receive money. Boy bands were the IT fixture in the musical staple all over the World, now we simply have a boy and a band. If you were purchasing a music CD you went to a store, well now you just download the song or music you want. One needed to be able to sing well to sell music, well now you can just speak and leave the singing to the auto-tune device. If you were famous at the beginning of this decade chances are that it was because you did something, you were either a good actor, singer, made some sort of meaningful discovery that impacted humanity in a positive or negative way. The end of this decade you can be famous for…err..nothing. If you were banking you had to physically go to the Bank or call the 800 number to access your account, well now you just go online, where you can even move the money around.

Americans in this decade voted in their first African American president, who just happens to have Kenyan father and an American mother. This struggle still goes on as his black side calls Kanye a Jack ass for grabbing Taylor Swifts award and his white side get’s him to wear Mum jeans. When combined his black and white side invites a feuding Professor and a cop to the white house for a beer. Africans couldn’t be out done the 90’s saw some of the last dictators hold office. This decade the dictators re-invented themselves they came up with power sharing – who can top that!

While Americans continue to host the World super bowl championship, building some of the biggest stadiums to ever exist. Africa is hosting its first World Cup in South Africa. This was a remote possibility at the beginning of this decade. As we enter a new decade, let’s make it a decade of promise. It’s we the young and the people we represent that will determine the future of Africa and the World. As we like Obama best said it ‘Brim with talent, energy and hope.’
