Oct 5: Valentino Achak Deng at Netivot Shalom In Berkeley CaliforniaValentino Achak Deng, the hero of Dave Eggers’ book “What is the What”(national Book Award finalist from last year) will speak at Netivot Shalom, 10:30am. “What is the What” tells Deng’s life story, from his pre-war life in southern Sudan as a young boy, to his resettlement in the United States. Come hear about his experiences, including the work of his foundation to rebuild schools in Sudan. This is a free event; refreshments provided.

An inspiring story of one man’s struggle of survival during the second Sudanese Civil War, Valentino trekked through Eastern Africa as a refugee until he was resettled in the United States.
